Eurovision Edge is a dynamic ESL group task built around the chaos, drama and glitter of the Eurovision Song Contest. Students explore what really makes a Eurovision act successful, from wild costumes and viral hooks to staging, social media, and political voting, before creating and pitching an act of their own.
The task begins with a critical thinking challenge where students rank 10 real-world success factors, using examples from iconic performances. They then design their own Eurovision act from scratch: choosing a country, song genre, costume, staging and promotional strategy, plus writing a short verse in English to pitch live to the class.
Whether students go for power ballads, chaotic gimmicks or full-on euro-pop spectacle, the activity gives space for creativity, performance, and collaborative speaking. There’s room to scale up or simplify, making it perfect for both mixed-ability and project-based lessons.
This resource is also part of our Music & Film | EFL Resource Pack, which is available to download here.
